不知道大家都是怎麼開始認真聽音樂的，沒有youtube跟myspace的時代，你的音樂連結要從哪裡來？ 站在光南,玫瑰,淘兒的唱片櫃前看側標都可以看一整個下午，對音樂知識的慾求壓過了慘綠的性衝動，途經了自以為比別人懂更多的不可一世白痴模樣，才變成現在這種樣子。
說起來，廠牌(oo)(豬)本主義絕對是罪魁禍首之一，在資訊匱乏的21世紀初，帶給了台灣青年學子一個接觸偏門獨立音樂的途徑，感謝主理人周小虫撰文推薦Rainer Maria，並分享了他們的名曲Artificial Light(人造光)，一首對初來乍到的網路時代之反思，現在讀起來還挺有預言性的，人造光帶來了新時代，帶給了我們很多以前難以想像的東西，也失去了一些，要如何取捨呢？你自己決定。

在20世紀末開始做(oo)本主義音樂郵購之前，就曾經買過 Rainer Maria 的黑膠唱片。一方面因他們團名有些神祕，一方面是他們的唱片封面都著特殊美感，再加上各方雜誌評論對他們的音樂讚譽有加，Rainer Maria這名字在如過江之鯽湧現的emo樂團風潮中，始終佔有一席邊緣但重要的位置。1995年，女主唱/貝斯手 Caithlin De Marrais 、男主唱/吉他手 Kaia Fischer 、 鼓手 William Kuehn ，三人基於對19世紀末頹廢浪漫派德語詩人 Rainer Maria Rilke 的熱愛，，在美國 威斯康．辛麥迪遜組成三人emo樂團 Rainer Maria，並以同樣團員陣容堅持至今 (中間有休團)。
早期以饒富特色的男女主唱配置，佐以充滿詩意的歌詞，與獨特韻味的emo爆發力 ，Rainer Maria 成團一年後就在著名獨立廠牌 Polyvinyl 發行了EP，往後並發行了五張專輯及數張EP與現場專輯，在米國、大和、歐羅巴、及大洋洲與其他各地，培養了一群低調但忠實的樂迷。
大災難！在2005年，Rainer Maria 發行 Catastrophe Keeps Us Together (災難讓我們在一起) 專輯之後， 當年底他們就在告別演唱會宣布解散了！
還好，他們三人只是往各自的不同方向發展：主唱/貝斯手 De Marrais 發行了兩張個人專輯，吉他手 Kyle Fischer 則是就讀研究所學習圖博語、把名字改成 Kaia Fischer 之後跟 Against Me! 的主唱一樣變為女性再出發，鼓手 Kuehn 則是前往中東的葉門敘利亞等地以游擊鼓手的身分漫遊著。2014年左右，三人以紐約布魯克林為圓心、散居周圍，在地利天時之下，Rainer Maria又開始活動、並在同年舉行了重逢演唱會、獲得不錯的回響。
在2017年秋天，Rainer Maria 在過去長期合作的 Polyvinyl 發行了新專輯 S/T，並在美國各州進行一個半月的巡迴演唱。到了2018年春天，Rainer Maria 終於將觸角伸向西太平洋的日本台灣等地。想起當年與 Joan Of Arc、The Promise Ring、American Football、Owen 等 emo punk 樂團齊名的 Rainer Maria，現在竟然有機會在台灣近距離看到他們的演出，哪感覺就像是看到在 美國大聯盟MLB 的 曼尼 (Manny Ramirez)，有一天也來台灣爛爛的棒球場打種花職棒聯盟的感覺差不多吧…..
