The Natural Yogurt Band / Dance The Devil Away (LP)

十多年前，一個神秘包裹出現在英國著名廠牌Jazzman Records的門口，那是一個包裝著一些舊卡通片與一枚Demo的奇怪試聽帶，試聽帶內容是數首即興演奏但製作精良並且充滿著深度的融合爵士樂，廠牌人員對這些奇怪的音樂非常著迷，並積極的尋覓此聲音的出處，最後發現這個化名The Natural Yogurt Band的神秘樂團是一位來自英國諾丁漢經營著錄音室的作曲家Miles Newbold。根據Newbold的說法，他的音樂根源來自對50年代至60年代歐美地區大量產出被稱為” Library Music “（圖書館音樂,或稱罐頭音樂）的熱愛，這些未署名創作者的流水線音樂被當作聲音部件運用在填補當時鼎盛的Ｂ級電影與雜亂無章的低預算電視節目中的空白縫隙，就像是隱藏在音樂歷史中的化外之物，這些音樂並沒有所謂的中心思想與堅毅不拔的創作理念，而是功能性的不斷的拼裝與製造，這些人造的作業感反而讓這些聲音產生了某種奇怪的魅力，而Newbold的音樂就像這些音樂工廠中的無名前輩一樣，從不堅持音樂的方向，而是不斷的轉向下一件事，回頭看，並繼續前進。

在經歷了數枚頗受好評的作品後，The Natural Yogurt Band在2022年帶來了全新專輯《Dance The Devil Away》，包含了10首古怪多變的異教爵士樂，原始而獨特的聲音包含著戲劇化的管風琴與頑皮的長笛與琴鍵，不時出現的fuzz吉他，以及貫穿著靈巧聰慧且充滿律動的Jazz-Funk節奏組，猶如一部三〇年代的老式迪士尼卡通，而故事的劇情是走入了一座充滿調皮幽靈的迷幻圖書館中冒險，追趕跑跳碰，時而瘋狂，時而憂傷地沈靜。

Dance The Devil Away, the new album from The Natural Yogurt Band is a collection of 10 psychedelic, esoteric and cartoony library tracks, carried by Tom Dempsey’s heavy drum play. We find again that raw yet distinguished sound, proper to the Nottingham-based composer, with screeching organs, threatening grooves enlightened by the transverse flute, and loud drum breaks that navigate inside the stereo like a ghost haunting this record.
